Blood Orange

When I first saw the photograph "Popsicles" by Linda Lomellini, my mouth started to water. I was fascinated with how icy the popsicles looked and wanted to be able to recreate that from scratch. This image is my 3D rendition of her photograph.

SOFTWARE: MAYA | VRAY | PHOTOSHOP

“This looks great, but can you make it move?”

is what my college professor asked me after turning in the still for homework one week. The above video is the result of that challenge. As the still was composited and had a light paint over in Photoshop, it would’ve been a time consuming task to match the still in motion. So, by the time class ended I took it upon myself to figure a way to get it to move while maintaining the same fidelity of the composited still, by re-projecting my image back onto the geometry in Maya and animating the camera. Its not perfect but I’ld say it turned out pretty decent considering the tight turnaround.
